As any great Austinite knows, March brings the perfect temps, sunsets and the best (we’re biased, obviously) creative community our country has to offer – SXSW. This ten day event highlights some of the greatest in the interactive, film, and music industries and we absolutely love sittin’ front and center for these events. As music lovers, we tend to hit the streets for some of the greatest performances but this year, we changed it up! South by Southwest seriously has such a broad spectrum of events, everyone can find something they love!
First on the map this year was the highly anticipated premiere of Terrence Malik’s new film, Song to Song. We've never attended any of the film industry events during South by, but this one was so fun and the perfect introduction to this part of South by Southwest. Two words - Ryan. Gosling. Needless to say, celebrity sightings are a guarantee at the Paramount and we saw some of the best in the business. The film, Song to Song, was really great and very fun to watch considering most of the movie was filmed in Austin. Make sure you check this one out when it hits theaters!
Over the weekend, we made our way to Rainey for a Sunday Funday at the Twitter House. Wendy's featured their new wild berry Frosty, it was YUM and we made our own screen-printed SXSW crop tops! During the week we hit up South Congress and attended Rachael Ray's Moxie pop-up shop, where we sipped on the oh so cute and on-the-go Electric Sky Wine (rosé, all day), a new festival wine brought to you by Interscope Records. The pop-up was full of Rachael Ray's favorite things and we wanted to purchase every little thing! She's got great taste. Everyone has to make a pit-stop at Hotel San Jose for their SX San Jose event. This pop-up has a fun, family friendly market (we can #shoptillwedrop) and great tunes. We also popped into the Westin for rooftop drinks at the Azul Pool Bar and the specialty cocktails for SXSW were delicious! SXSW Marketplace at the Convention Center was also a must, can't wait to go back next year! Some of our favorite Austin boutiques were at the event, and we picked up an item or two for spring.
But Friday was full of festivities - FRYEDAYS at the Blackheart (loved the female group the Wild Reeds), the Facebook party featuring Pell, an amazing NOLA rapper. We also met back up with our friends at Electric Sky Wine at the Antone's Artist Lounge (Music is Universal). We sipped and listened to Cloves, an incredible Australian singer-songwriter. Y'ALL, she's totally about to blow up! We also made our way over to the Backyard at the Sheraton for a friend, DJ Matt Murdock's set. Let me just brag a little for one sec because Matt is absolutely amazing and so talented, plus he is only twenty-three years old (killin' it). Matt is from Houston and lives in LA, but if you ever need an incredible DJ with a buzz worthy set for a party, let us know because we'll definitely hook ya up (#djmattmurdock). Last but not least was the Garth Brooks concert at Lady Bird Lake. Oh my Garth, y'all - he was absolutely incredible and it was so much fun! We really love the free outdoor concerts at Lady Bird Lake and we've seen a few incredible artists there (Childish Gambino, Foster the People, Ryan Bingham).
