When you think of Jamaica you think of beautiful beaches, rum & Bob Marley, right? You're pretty much spot on. So if you're looking to bum it on the beach with a drink in your hand, then Jamaica is definitely right for you.
We recommend staying at an all-inclusive resort or renting a villa for the duration of your stay in Jamaica. It is a third-world country and with that there aren't necessarily all the luxuries that come with your typical vacation (at least not the vacations I'm used to!) unless you stay somewhere that caters to tourists. We stayed at Eden Sands Villa in Ocho Rios. It came staffed with a chef #mrsBforthewin, night-time security and access to personal driver. Eden Sands is about an hour and a half drive from the Montego Bay airport but the drive was nothing short of impressive! Do your research before you go because each town and area of the island has an entirely different vibe, so pick the place thats right for you and your vacay needs.
Eat & Drink
We didn't go out to eat much because Mrs. B, the chef at our Villa, knew what's up! She took us to the outdoor fruit and vegetable market to hand-pick what we wanted to eat. There, we also go to try some pretty interesting island fruits like star apple (similar to a plum) & sweetsop (tons of seeds but tastes a bit like mango). And she prepared plenty of Jamaican specialities like fried plantains, oxtail + beans + rice, fresh red snapper and jerk chicken (because DUH!). If anything, please be sure to eat jerk chicken while in Jamaica, it was the most delicious thing we ate while on island time.
Evita's - Italian & Seafood. Can ya get much better?? But the view here is EVERYTHING. Located up in the mountains, you can see all of Ocho Rios and the sunsetting over the water.
Scotchie's - we didn't have a chance to eat here, but heard from plenty of locals that this was the best place for Jamaican cuisine! Plus, there are multiple locations on the island, so you can check it out no matter where you stay.
Appleton Estate Rum - if you're planning on drinking your weight in island cocktails (insert hands up emoji here), be sure to sip on this brand.
See & Do
The Beach - I mean this is a no-brainer, right? Jamaica has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Crystal clear water, super soft sand and sunshine year round are pretty hard to beat.
Island Gully Falls - Also known as the Blue Hole. You're led up to the top of the falls then slowly work your way down through the water. There's a series of waterfalls and pools to swim in, plus plenty of chances to take insta-worthy pics of the crystal clear water.
Great House of Rose Hall - Home to Annie Palmer and her alter-ego, the White Witch. This chick was CRAY, ya'll. Murdered all her husbands, was fully versed in the art of voodoo, tormented her slaves and continues to haunt the house to this day. We did the day tour, but I wish we could have done it at night to get the full effect!
