Elizabeth Street Cafe
Vietnamese cuisine + French desserts? Yep, you got that right. Elizabeth Street Cafe isn't your average go-to for all things bánh mì, pho, and vermicelli but we just can't get enough. This dainty, bright, and colorful cafe resonates happiness as soon as you walk in that light pink door. The shaded, turquoise accented patio is the loveliest spot for spring dining and cocktails, preferably the Shady Blonde or Velvet Ace punch. Ordering spring rolls at any Vietnamese spot is tradition, so we order the Poached Shrimp, BBQ Pork, and Jumbo Lump crap rolls (extra peanut sauce, please)! Next up, the Chicken Breast and Grilled Lemongrass Skewers Pho and Grilled Shrimp Bún with lots of hoisin sauce, yum! The Grilled Marinated Pork Bánh Mì is absolutely incredible, but we love noodles too much not to get our faves! If you're still hungry like we usually are, make sure you order the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich. Y'all - Raspberry Lychee Rose ice cream smack in between a pistachio macaron. Let the food coma commence!
We've got to eat healthy every once in a while, right? Well, Flowerchild definitely makes eating healthy more enjoyable. This sister restaurant to two of our absolute favorite spots, True Foods and North Italia, just opened up at the Domain Northside and has made our shopping trips just a bit more fun. The bohemian, casual vibe mixed with the natural protein and organic produce makes your experience incredibly satisfying. We love a good cobb salad, and Flowerchild's version makes us feel lighter than a feather (crunchy corn + pickled onions + almonds + gorgonzola vinaigrette). The Mother Earth bowl mixes hearty veggies (portobello + sweet potato + avocado) with grains and three different dressings, so yummy! Even though we're eatin' healthy, we have to add a sinful side dish - the gluten free mac and cheese (omg, spirals - it's so good, y'all). Make sure you grab one of the many lemonade selections on hand before you leave! Our favorite is the Rose Petal :)
I don't see nothin' wrong, with a little cheese and wine (yes, please say that like Boyz II Men would). North Italia is one of our top three Italian spots here in Austin and we l-o-v-e their pizza. We always start our meal at North with a great bottle of vino, and their variety and supply is endless! Next up - the Cauliflower. It may sound like just your average veggie but this is one of the most decadent dishes ever (fried egg + asparagus + pancetta cream + breadcrumbs = to. die. for). Every pizza ordered at North is amazing, but we love the Prosciutto and the Funghi pizzas. If you're looking for something on the lighter side, the Tuscan Kale and the Heirloom Beet salads are superb. Take a seat on the heated outdoor patio during the Winter months for a girls night - you know we'll be doing the same!
Emmer & Rye
We love anything that's served as a shareable plate and farm to table. And Emmer & Rye on Rainey Street is one of the best! You'll see us there eyeing the dim sum carts because who doesn't like seeing their food before ordering! They come around in a few waves during your meal and you can keep grabbing until you're stuffed. Their menu changes often, but a few of our faves that are on the menu right now are their roasted beets with creme fraiche, the beef tartare, the radishes and butter and the agnolotti. So go check them out while you can!
