Los Angeles - ya either love it or you hate it. We love it for everything it has to offer - beautiful beaches, incredible + diverse + authentic food, celebrities + Hollywood, shopping for days, views on views, and the best weather all year long.
See & Do
The Getty | Located in DTLA, this museum houses a vast array of European art, like Vincent van Gogh's Irises and Sebastiano Ricci's Triumph of the Marine Venus, plus it hosts awesome exhibitions. Make sure you check out the Central Garden at the Getty - it is absolutely breathtaking (the view isn't too bad either)!
LACMA | Largest Art Museum in the Western United States. You know, where Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman hash it out in No Strings Attached (Urban Light by Chris Burden). Okay, but seriously, this museum has multiple buildings full of incredible art pieces from all over the world - contemporary art, So Cal art, Middle Eastern art, Impressionism - you name it, they've got it! Allocate at least 3 hours for this spot, you'll need it.
Griffith Observatory | Views. for. days. This public (and free) monument offers the absolute best views of LA and the Hollywood sign, telescopes for stargazing, and all things astronomy.
Abbott Kinney | This mile-long strip in Venice is perfect for a day at the beach! There are tons of cute n' trendy shops and restaurants (Gjelena) for a days worth of entertainment. We stumbled upon the best food truck event in LA, First Friday, for second dinner (whoops) at the Kogi Korean BBQ truck. Abbott Kinney is definitely one of the trendiest spots in LA!
Venice | Venice Beach is such an interesting, yet beautiful spot! It's home to muscle beach, a boardwalk full of touristy shops and poké joints, and a gorgeous beach. Head over to Venice and take a walk on the wild side.
Santa Monica Pier | The beach is key to your trip to California, and you can't visit LA without taking a stroll on the Santa Monica pier. There are tons of restaurants, shops, and rides for your entertainment! Plus, I hear the ride on the ferris wheel is absolutely breathtaking (I wouldn't know - acrophobia).
Melrose Ave | Vintage shopping at its' best! Clearly, I make the time to shop wherever I go and Melrose has so many options. I loved checking out Marc by Marc Jacobs, American Vintage, and Kitson, all of which are unique to this strip!
Eats & Drinks
Chinatown | It's all that an dim sum. Do yourself a favor and head over to Chinatown in LA for authentic Chinese cuisine and great Asian markets. Any spot you pick will be incredible, but make sure you snag a few of our favorite soup dumplings (pork) and fresh seafood dumplings (shrimp + lobster).
Farmers Market at the Grove | This historic market is located in the heart of the Grove and offers amazing, gourmet food from over a dozen of LA’s best spots. We love the Brazilian churrascaría Pampas Grill for the fried yucas, cheese bread (omg), and BBQ meats (spicy chicken + garlic beef).
Lemonade | Located all over LA is this bright, modern, marketplace that offers the BEST seasonal items. Lemonade’s menu is vegetable centered, but also has great fish, salad, and soup/sandwich combos. Do yourself a favor and order the traditional mac and cheese with the white truffle mac and cheese – it’s incredible.
Gjelina | My absolute favorite restaurant in LA - amazing pizza and celeb spottings. Head over to Abbott Kinney in Venice for the best mushroom toast and pizza a restaurant has to offer. Grab a cookbook on the way out – you’ll definitely want to recreate these dishes at home.
Pink's Hot Dogs | We love a good hot dog, especially when it's topped with almost anything you can imagine! Pink's specialty hot dogs are celebrity specific (the Martha Stewart dog, Emeril Legase Barn Dog, and the favorite Brando Dog) are the perfect cure for your hangover ;)
Urth Caffé | Because, Vincent Chase. If you ever watch Entourage, you’ll want to check out this café, especially for the best Almond Chai Tea Latte I’ve ever had. The pizza, paninis, and all day brunch will keep you fat and happy.
Grand Central Market | This DTLA hot spot brings together the various cuisines and cultures LA has to offer. From street tacos at Ana Maria to the fabulous egg sandwiches at Eggslut, to the incredible burger at Belcampo Meat Company and fresh fish pasta dishes at Bombo – GCM has it all!
Bungalow | A MUST. This rustic, bougie (in the best way possible), beachside bar at the Fairmont Santa Monica is truly amazing. The Bungalow is unlike any bar we’ve ever been to – separate spaces, themed rooms, a rustic bar with a wood burning stove, and a wooden deck with couches, chairs, and fairy lights. The house margarita pairs perfectly with the sunset and great company!
Mercado | A contemporary Mexican restaurant that offers over 60 premium tequilas? Count us in! Stop by and grab the Margarita de Jamaica (fresh hibiscus marg) or the Spicy Cucumber Margarita (jalapeno puree + chipotle salt rim) before heading over to Bungalow down the street ;)
Pressed Juicery | Delicious, nutritious, fresh pressed juices to help you detox after consuming all of the food above! Grab a roots 3 (apple + beet + ginger + lemon) or the vanilla almond (almond + dates + sea salt + vanilla bean) for your flight home.
